The "Memo"

I am no fashionista, but I do fancy myself to be relatively fashionable. Charlie and I went to the movies Saturday night and whilst we were standing in line waiting to go into the theater, I was people watching (of course). After a few minutes I pointed out to Charlie that every single teenage girl I saw was wearing jeans tucked into Uggs. No joke. I've never seen so many jeans and Uggs in my life. The more we watched the more we realized it was mostly teenage girls, but even spilled over into the older generations - grandmothers too! I mean, I like a good fashion trend and I'll grasp on to a good one and ride the train, but really?? It was astounding and comical how many we actually saw once we started paying attention. Did I miss the memo?? Sorry teeny boppers, but it becomes less of a statement and less original when you're the 2,476th girl at your school wearing them.

Furthermore...I have to express a fashion faux-pas that drives me crazy. Velour leisure suits. I can't tell you how many times I've been at the mall, a restaurant, or the movies and I have seen women walking around in these velour leisure suits. Since when did that become public outing wear?? You are not J-Lo and I don't care if it does say "Juicy" across your butt. It's not appropriate. Show some respect for yourself and the people you're with, for heaven's sake, and throw on an outfit! I do own such leisure wear and that's exactly where I wear it...in my home on Sundays whilst I'm being leisurely!

AND...if anyone cares about my last fashion rant I'll give it to you. Leggings at church. Leggings are pants. They don't belong at church. If you feel your dress may be a smidge too short there are sooo many pretty, patterned, textured tights out there that would fill the purpose of keeping your legs warm and covering them up at the same time. What a phenomenon. Don't get me wrong - I like leggings. I wear them with casual dresses every once in a while. In fact, I'm wearing a pair with a little cotton dress and a scarf at work, as we speak! I just don't think they're appropriate church wear. That's all. Happy Monday everyone!!

I'm a guy, and I so agree about the leggings at church! Well done! I thought I was the only one that felt that way!

I whole heatedly agree with every word you said.
Especially the leggings at church.
Although I am a built guilty of the uggs and jeans... mostly because there is so much snow around I don't my jeans wet - not because I think I am cool and can pull it off.

Agree. 100%.

whitney - you're ugg wearing is permittable, as we DO NOT have snow in Vegas and therefore have no reason to be wearing an eskimo boot!

i was going to say the same about the uggs up here, they are slightly necessary. i always hear that they are on the out, but i'm gonna hang onto the comfy boots over (dry) jeans trend for as long as possible. and oh my heavens, i have the same rant on the leggings at church. i so DO NOT agree with it! i seriously wanted to say something to my young women once, and then the yw pres daughter was sportin it, so i didn't. call me an old fashioned lady but i so do not think it is appropriate for church. and oh the jlo. good rant.

do you know how much I love you? that was the greatest fashion rant. I echo every word. Sometimes I think maybe I am feeling those things cause maybe I am jealous that I am not as "hip" as all those pretty girls. But, really, I just have a lot better taste... :)

Oh Melissa how we are kindred spirits. Also, I don't care how many people wear them, I CANNOT stand bright colored skinny jeans. Especially when guys wear them. Seriously?!? How are you actually considered a man when walking around in bright pink, yellow, purple or whatever-color skinny jeans with your junk all smushed up to who knows where. Seriously people, you don't need to wear glow in the dark colors for me to notice how ridiculous you look. Ok that is all.

Melissa, I totally agree!!!! We have women in our ward that always wear leggins with a short dress and it bugs. I also hate the whole jeans in Ugg thing and I even live in cold climate.
