So, up until last week I would call myself a Glee watcher. I wasn't adamant about it and would usually catch up on a few episodes at a time on Hulu. Last November I was chatting with my Joni friend and we were discussing that the ladies in her ward wouldn't let their kids watch the show. We were like, What? Why?? But the more we thought about it and the more we chatted about it we realized that maybe those ladies were on to something.I've been teetering on the border of like and dislike for the show and after last week's episode about teenage drinking, I am officially jumping off the bandwagon. I think they missed the mark on their moral lesson when they said "They're going to do it anyway, so at least we can help them be smart about it. Don't drive yourselves home." And also the fact that they just kind of threw in once, "Oh yeah...and it's illegal."
I've been noticing more and more that each episode has some sort of moral to it, but they are constantly missing the mark on them. It feels more like they are hiding the liberality of their views behind the masks of popular, catchy tunes and it's working. Glee is a hit! It used to have so many funny one-liners, but I feel like it's lost even that, and is heading on a downward slope. I feel like The Bachelor has higher moral standards compared to what goes on in Glee! The more I've thought about it the more I totally concur with Joni's friends. If I had children, I wouldn't let them watch it. So, I'm officially off. If I really need to hear one of their latest remakes, I'll hit up itunes.

As we mature and gain deeper understanding of the gospel--and the world we live in, we realize how much we need to completely avoid grossness. I am not saying that I am great at this... but I am so much more aware of the need to seek out the good and not allow Satan to quietly, sleekly steal into our homes and bind us up. So much more now that I have kids and my oldest will soon be eight (crazy, right?). I want to protect them. Guarding my home and what comes into it is one of the best things I can do.
Way to go doll! (PS, I totally miss you and want to know what is going on in your life. please send me an email with details!)
i totally would tell my yw i didn't watch that show and neither should they! oops, i guess when you lie and watch bad shows they put you in the primary teaching the sunbeams where they can't even remember the lesson you just taught 5 mins ago let alone your weekly sins! but seriously the drinking show was a bit of a shame.
glee has been a ? for me right from the 1st not so appropriate show. lucky for me, i never really got into it, and now i don't have to get out of it, but i say power to ya! the little things do matter, and i'm just glad that you said bachelor has higher moral standards than glee cuz i feel more justified in my love for it! haha :)
I used to watch all the time until the Madona episode then I peaced out then I came back for a couple episodes and then I left for good again. I love me a cheezy musical but I guess I can do without Glee. I have been fighting the same battle with Grey's for years. I will not watch for like a year and then I will get sucked back in for a while and then I will quit it again... Right now I am winning but it is hard. Good for you for blogging about it but just one question remains...When did we get old??
Seriously! That was my exact thought too - when did I turn into an old lady. Darn my moral compass for working now. Oh well...
And don't worry, Lynz - I could never turn my back on Bachelor!
