It's a Problem

Ok, listen... I have a problem. I am totally going What Not to Wear on myself and purging my closet again. In the process I've realized that I have a problem! When my friend Heather passed away in May, her obituary said that she was a "collector" of bags and clothing and I have to say that I share in her hobby. Our roommates used to shop in our closets in college. Seriously. But here's the problem...it's not so much that I like to shop, because I really have gotten better at holding back in the last few years, but the real problem is that I don't ever get rid of anything. Let's just talk about this - here are some of the treasures I found in a box of winter clothes retrieved from storage today: ahem...ribbed knits, velour-ish dress pants, baseball tees, thermal tees, and sweaters that used to be cute but are O-U-T now. What was I thinking?! Why oh why would I keep such things for so long? Layering pieces? No. I'm over it. So, I had to show evidence of an updated closet, which is still bursting at the seams. It's a step though, people! Oh, and pretend you don't see the mess - I'm packing!

Keeping

Keeping

Keeping - clearly this is only a small portion of my shoe collection

Also keeping...how am I ever going to get all of this to Portland?

The Treasure Box of discarded items, if you will.

Also discarded items, not to mention the two bags already in the hallway. I'm making progress!

Wow. You are hilarious. I am what people might call a "pack-rat", or a "collector" of sorts as well. Josh is the same way, but believe me, you move out of a 3-bedroom apartment without a baby into a 2 bedroom student housing with a baby, you learn to throw unnecessary things away. Here's a trick, put all of your clothing in the closet facing a certain way (learned this on oprah), and if you wear it, place it back into the closet with the hanger the other way. AFter 1 year, if there is anything still hanging the same way, get rid of it. Obviously you don't need it if you haven't wore it in a year! Me, I put "summer" things in a tote, and when summer comes, the tote comes out and the winter stuff goes away! Good luck with all that though!

Oh my heck you should see our closet it is so ridiculous right now. We live in such a small apartment and our bedroom closet isn't big enough for my clothes let alone Jason's too. Plus with having kids I have like transition clothes for all my many sizes through pre and post pregnancy so ridiculous I know :> I just love clothes and can't get rid of anything oh and your shoes are so cute I want them all when does your store open ??? Oh and I love the suggestion mindi said

How funny to read about your "What Not to Wear" issues. I've been up to the same thing lately. Except with my purging, I have definitely been adding to my closet at the same time. Let's just say I have spent way too much money lately buying clothes to cover up my post pregnancy weight. Yikes--too much info. But I'm glad to see that someone else has been up to similar things.
